Bible/Scripture Commentaries are SECONDARY SOURCES. Bible and scripture commentaries are written explanations or interpretations of biblical text that provide insights into the historical context, laguage usage, and the theological meaning of a scripture passage. As secondary sources, the commentaries help the researcher "keep up with developments in their fields, and in this way, to stimulate their own thinking." (Booth et al, The Craft of Research, 4th edition, 66).
